Personal Reading & Writing History

In my early days of reading/writing, I never enjoyed either of them before, and I would get frustrated why this was happening, since I knew many people who did enjoy it. I then later realised that I could read and write about stuff that I actually enjoy about things that I have an interest in and can relate too. This helped me have a different perspective. Thus making the process more enjoyable and unique to me. Since I have realised this about myself I always try to make my works reflect me as a person and try to choose readings that I have a common interest in. Obviously with school assignments this can be a little tricky but I always seem to find something in there that sparks interest for me. This perspective has aided me greatly.

My first years, which were the most pivotal in my reading and writing experience, were actually kind of tricky for me because I was in Canada at the time. In Canada I was in an all French speaking school so my basics in reading and writing were all in french. When I moved to the  states I was having a very hard time getting adjusted.  I would stay after school almost every day, so the teacher could help me with my grammar skills and aid me in picking up my speed when reading books. Because of my past school years neither my English was perfect nor my French, so I was in quite of an off limbo experience where I would neither be applicable here nore in my old school since I had fallen behind on both. At first it was a rocky road for me. But with practicing and getting extra help and tutoring I was able to improve upon myself and get to where I am today.

Many years later in my English class in the 10th grade we were doing a project on ancient Persia and we were supposed to write a report/essay on it. My ancestral background is Persian so I felt very connected to the work. When I started on the project, ideas and thoughts just came to me naturally since this topic is always a common conversation in my house and my family/grandparents are very knowledgeable on this topic. I loved how at the same time I was learning some new things but being able to display what I already know and to show off my knowledge on that subject.

In that same english class we were starting to make your resumes one time. It was my first time ever even attempting to make a resume that looked somewhat acceptable. It was really confusing at first with the formatting and remembering each line/accomplishment  and putting it in order. After 5 or 6 different ways of putting it together I showed it to my teacher and she said it was great (mind you this after 5 rejections from her).  Since then I can put together a decent resume with the skills I learned that day. That day I went to class an outsider on how to make a good resume and I left that class an insider.
